CHEMISTRY

The fundamentals of full ink recipes and the real story behind ink formulations, unbranded & unsponsored!

In this module, we unpack ink recipes in full detail. We start by cutting through the confusion around colorants not just “mineral vs organic,” but true origins, chemical families, how they’re made, relationships, differences, and long-term behavior (pros and cons!) backed by validated clinical data.

From there, I help you complete the story with deep explanation of the liquid base: solvents, humectants, preservatives, stabilizers, and targeted additives because PMU and ink are more than pigments! 
We also examine binders; what they do, when they’re necessary (or not), and what risks they may pose in living tissue. Every claim is supported by research and verified outcomes. No core ingredient is left unexamined.

You’ll get clear logic and real clinical proof so you can start to make conscious choices about the colourants and ingredients you use, the ones you prefer, and the ones you choose to exclude from the formulations you work with.

BIOLOGY

In this module, we move beyond surface anatomy and Fitzpatrick charts, and step into the deeper layers of biology that truly shape PMU outcomes.
You’ll explore skin color through a scientific lens, separating optical reality from racial assumptions, and learn how tensile strength, skin type, and reflection influence what we actually perceive.

From there, we enter Immunology because the immune system is the real decision-maker behind your healed PMU results. Understanding how the body responds the moment ink, pigments, chemicals, and needles interact with living tissue is crucial.

We examine cellular behaviour, trauma, healing, lymphatic responses, long-term pigment storage and migration. We also address the deeper mechanisms behind infections versus (delayed) allergies, not as abstract theory, but as real biological processes happening inside the skin.

Finally, we bring transparency to Toxicology a topic rarely discussed openly. Developing awareness around chemical risks and how to manage them will be eye-opening and influence your future decisions.

COLORISTICS

Color is one of the most complex languages in art, and in PMU, it is never static.
In this module, you’ll explore how color evolved from early artistic interpretation to modern scientific understanding, and how human vision, skin, and pigments interact to shape what we ultimately perceive.

You’ll move from the foundations of color history and trichromatic vision into a modern approach to coloristics in PMU where light, skin, and pigment chemistry are analyzed as one system. We translate theory into practice by focusing on brows, lips, and eyeliner, each as its own optical and biological zone.

This module also links skin typing to pigment color typing. You’ll learn to think multidirectionally; from undertones and tissue structure to light behavior and pigment interaction, and understand why color choices continuously changes over time (no matter what a brand promises!) 

Mixology and layering strategies are approached with longevity and stability in mind, helping you create results that age with balance and intention rather than (unpredictably) shifting.
